Sources report that the coup military launched an airstrike using two jet fighters on Ponnagyun, a town currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), this morning (May 15).

Local residents stated that the bombing occurred shortly after 8:30 AM and was accompanied by an attack from a kamikaze drone launched from Sittwe.

"Two jets came and dropped bombs. There is damage to houses, but we don’t know the exact details regarding casualties yet," said a local man from Ponnagyun.

At least four houses in Ponnagyun were destroyed due to the airstrike. We are still investigating to confirm whether there were any civilian casualties.

Although the Arakan Army seized control of Ponnagyun on March 4, 2024, residents have been unable to return to their homes as the military continues to fire heavy artillery from nearby Sittwe.

The coup military frequently targets Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, and Pauktaw—townships located near Sittwe—using airstrikes, naval artillery fire, and kamikaze drones.

"Yesterday, jets were circling over every township near Sittwe. This morning, we heard the sound of firing near Ponnagyun," a resident from Rathedaung added.

Military tensions between the coup military and the Arakan Army are currently reported to be high in the Sittwe area.

Previously, on May 10, the military junta attacked Nyaung Pin Lel village in the Moe Se Kyunn area of Rathedaung Township with a kamikaze drone, resulting in the destruction of one house.

Since the beginning of 2026, clashes have intensified in Kyaukphyu and Sittwe townships, with the military junta increasingly utilizing formations of aircraft to conduct continuous bombing raids.
