Myanmar’s military junta launched a series of aerial attacks on Thandwe Township in the Arakan region from the early hours of April 1 until shortly after noon, according to local sources.

The operation involved coordinated strikes by multiple fighter jets and a Y-12 aircraft, targeting areas near civilian-populated villages in Ngapali, including Gyit Taw, Lin Thar, Mazin, and Gaw villages. Residents reported that at least four fighter jets and one Y-12 aircraft were deployed, dropping more than 20 bombs across the targeted areas.

Alongside the airstrikes, junta naval vessels positioned offshore reportedly carried out simultaneous bombardments using heavy artillery, indicating a coordinated air and naval assault.

The extent of casualties and damage has not yet been confirmed, as investigations are ongoing. However, the attacks are believed to have affected civilian-populated areas.

Thandwe Township has been subjected to similar attacks in recent months. In December 2025, an airstrike on Lin Thar Ward resulted in the deaths of nine civilians and injuries to twelve others.

In October 2025, junta naval ships stationed offshore opposite Ngapali Beach shelled areas around Thandwe, while Y-8 and Y-12 aircraft conducted continuous aerial operations over Thandwe and Gwa towns for approximately four hours. Further airstrikes were reported on October 10, 2025, when fighter jets bombed areas near Thandwe at around 8:00 a.m.

Following the latest developments, the Arakan Army (AA) has issued a warning urging residents in coastal towns and villages to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential air and naval attacks.
