The coup military has been launching attacks using jet fighters and naval vessels in recent days on Gwa Township, southern Arakan an area controlled by the Arakan Army (AA) resulting in casualties among local residents.
It is learned that today, July 8, at around 9:00 AM, the coup military's navy launched heavy artillery attacks from the sea onto Kyeintali town in Gwa Township, wounding six local residents, including a young child.
Those who were wounded are Daw Ma Htar (45 years old), Daw Than May (74 years old), Ma Yadanar Htun (5 years old), U Nyo Htun (48 years old), Ma Thin Thiri Htun (17 years old), and Daw Mi Wine (50 years old), all residents of Ward No. (3), Kyeintali town.
Similarly, it is said that an airstrike was carried out yesterday using a jet fighter on the vicinity of the industrial school and Sipin village near Gwa town, and naval vessels at sea are continuing to fire heavy artillery today.
Currently suffering heavy military defeats in Ayeyarwady Region, the coup military has been continuously launching consecutive daily airstrikes and naval attacks on the surroundings of Gwa Township and Kyeintali town, which border the region.
Because of this, Gwa residents say they have to exercise extreme caution regarding security.
Another Gwa resident said, "People don't seem overly worried. The jets aren't as aggressive as they are in northern Arakan, so we just hide for a bit when it happens and then go back to living normally."
The Arakan Army completely captured the entirety of Gwa Township in southern Arakan State on December 29, 2024.
Furthermore, following the AA's consecutive capture of military camps within Yegyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region which borders Gwa Township the coup military has intensified its bombings and shellings on Gwa Township.
