A local Muslim man in Maungdaw Township lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine reportedly planted by the extremist Islamist militant groups ARSA/RSO. The explosion occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on November 17.
The victim has been identified as U Abul Lar Chein, 55, a resident of Nganchaung Mrauk Village in Maungdaw Township.
According to a local resident who spoke to Arakan Princess Media, U Abul Lar Chein was herding buffalo east of Kyae Tama Village when he accidentally stepped on the device, triggering the blast. The landmine is believed to have been planted by ARSA/RSO militants operating in the area.
The explosion severed his right leg below the knee and caused severe injuries to his left leg. He is currently receiving medical treatment.

The incident follows a similar landmine explosion on November 14, in which a local ethnic Mro man, U Daung Rwaing from Khontine Village, was killed after stepping on a mine allegedly planted by the same militant groups.
