A military junta navy vessel anchored near Shwe Kyunn Gyi in Ann Township detained eight civilians, along with two travel motorboats from Kyunn Thar Yar Village, Myebon Township, on May 16, according to local sources.
On May 16, U Ba Shwe Thein (61), his son Nyi Nyi Lwin (28), San Shwe Myint (28), and Lone Htaung (28)—all residents of Kyunn Thar Yar Village, Myebon Township—were traveling by motorboat to collect firewood when they were detained by a navy vessel belonging to the terrorist Myanmar military near Shwe Kyunn Gyi.
Similarly on the same day, four other residents from Kyunn Thar Yar Village—U Maung Maung Lwin (35), Maung Ye Kyaw Thu (23), Kyan Kyaung Chay (22), and Maung Maung Gyi (22)—were also detained by the same navy vessel while they were on their way to fetch charcoal.
Locals stated that the Myanmar terrorist military's navy frequently detains innocent travelers in this manner, leaving regional residents in a constant state of fear and anxiety even when simply venturing out to secure their basic livelihoods.
