Junta Airstrikes Target Heritage City of Mrauk-U, Injuring Four Civilians

Four civilians were injured when the junta forces launched a mass airstrike on the ancient heritage city of Mrauk-U in Arakan State, the Arakha Army (AA) announced yesterday (August 5).

Just past 9:00 PM on August 4, the junta forces conducted an air attack lasting for over an hour using six jet fighters and two Y-12 transport aircraft, dropping over 30 bombs on former junta military positions in Mrauk-U Town specifically Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) No. 540 and Police Battalion No. 31.

According to the AA statement, the bombardment left four civilians who were sheltering nearby as conflict-displaced and flood-displaced persons injured.

Additionally, three cattle owned by local civilians were killed, and five others were injured in the attack.

Mrauk-U is an ancient historical heritage city of the Arakanese people and currently serves as a sanctuary for numerous displaced persons.

As the junta continues to launch daily airstrikes on townships controlled by the Arakha Army, civilian casualties and structural damage to homes remain high.

Despite the ongoing monsoon season, the junta has been carrying out relentless air raids, prompting the Arakha Army to urge the public to remain highly vigilant against aerial threats.
