DLEPS Arrests Fugitive Suspect Involved in Child Rape Case in Kyauktaw

It is reported that the fugitive suspect who committed sexual violence against two underage sisters in Kyauk Ta Lone Village, Thayet Tapin Village Tract, Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, was arrested yesterday, July 29, by the Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) under the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government.

The individual who committed sexual violence and child rape before fleeing is U Maung Aye Hla, a 46-year-old farm owner from Thayet Tapin Village, Kyauktaw Township. After committing the crime, he had been in hiding since May 15. However, DLEPS officials conducted a raid and arrested him after receiving information that he had returned to his residence in Thayet Tapin Village around 10:00 PM yesterday.

"DLEPS came to his home to arrest him. He tried to flee, but DLEPS officers surrounded and apprehended him," a local resident stated.

According to the victims' family, the sexual violence and child rape incident occurred when the eldest daughter, aged 14 from a family working as hired farm caretakers in the Yun Chaung area of Kyauktaw Township was taken by Maung Aye Hla to work on April 6, where he forcibly raped her that night.

Additionally, family members revealed that Maung Aye Hla sexually threatened the family's younger daughter, aged 8, and forced her to perform inappropriate acts.

Following the incident, the perpetrator’s family attempted to negotiate a financial settlement to drop the case. Furthermore, after being dismissed from their jobs, the victimized family faced severe livelihoods and emotional distress.

Currently, the suspect, U Maung Aye Hla, is in DLEPS custody, and effective legal action will be taken against him in accordance with DLEPS operational procedures.
