It is reported that nearly 500 residents from three villages near a prisoner of war (POW) camp in the Dar Let Chaung area of Ann Township, Arakan State, have been forced to flee their homes to safer ground after the camp was bombed by the military council.

The Arakan Army (AA) announced today that the military council attacked the POW camp in Dar Let Chaung on March 8 with hundreds of bombs, killing 116 prisoners and leaving 32 others severely injured.

A local man from Ann stated that due to the incident, nearly 500 residents from the three nearby villages have fled their homes in fear and panic.

"The bombing with hundreds of shells was truly horrifying. The psychological impact on the local people is immense; they are terrified and have been seeking refuge in safer villages," he said.

The Dar Let Chaung area is home to about 40 villages, predominantly inhabited by Chin people who rely on shifting cultivation for their livelihoods.

The military council has been intensifying aerial attacks on the Arakan region, targeting not only civilian towns and villages but also locations holding POWs.

Unlike previous attacks, the military council is now using numerous high-explosive bombs, leading to a rise in incidents of mass casualties.

"The military council appears to be acting with no restraint, committing truly brazen acts. The Dar Let Chaung incident is particularly horrifying; so many lives were lost. And these were their own troops. Yet, it seems the military council doesn't care about that. We see them primarily escalating their air campaign, causing massive damage and spreading terror," observed an Arakanese human rights activist.

The AA has stated that besides POWs, civilian prisoners were also killed in the attack on the Dar Let Chaung camp, and that among the deceased POWs were some high-ranking military officers.

In Arakan State, the military council has now carried out up to six airstrikes on five different prison camps. These attacks have resulted in nearly 200 deaths and over 100 injuries.

As the military council's airstrikes on the Arakan region become increasingly severe with each occurrence, local residents are urged to be especially vigilant against the dangers of aerial attacks.
