On the morning of August 26, 2025, the Arakan Army detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally fishing in Arakan territorial waters. With this latest incident, the total number of illegal fishermen detained since August 12, 2025, has reached 48.
Details of today’s incidents are as follows:
First Incident: At approximately 9:00 AM, Arakan authorities spotted six wooden fishing boats illegally fishing about 4.19 kilometers west of Udaung Chaung. Upon pursuit, one boat carrying five fishermen was detained, while the other five boats escaped into Bangladeshi waters. The detained boat was found with five fishermen, 11 fishing nets, approximately one viss (1.6 kg) of fish, and one keypad phone.
Second Incident: At around 11:00 AM, approximately 7.38 kilometers west of Mrinhlut Chaung, a second fishing boat was detained. This boat carried six fishermen, eight fishing nets, approximately 32 viss (52 kg) of fish and shrimp, and two mobile phones.

Some Bangladeshi media outlets like Dhaka Tribune and Daily Star have falsely claimed that the fishermen accidentally entered Arakan territorial waters. However, investigations and evidence reveal that these incursions were deliberate and repeated, with multiple instances of illegal entry into Arakan waters.
The two fishing boats and 11 Bangladeshi fishermen caught illegally fishing in Arakan territorial waters are currently under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
