On September 11, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM, the Arakan Army issued a statement detailing law enforcement actions against illegal fishermen from Bangladesh. The statement read:

“On September 10, 2025, at around 1:00 PM, approximately 80 Bangladeshi fishing boats illegally entered Arakan waters and engaged in poaching, approximately 6.75 km west of Koetankauk village and 6.72 km west of Chainkharli village in Rathedaung Township, Arakan State. The Arakan Coast Guard pursued and apprehended five of these boats, bringing them to shore around 7:00 PM for legal inspection and processing.

During the transfer, one of the apprehended boats, carrying terrorists disguised as fishermen, attacked and killed one Arakan security officer and one coast guard member, seizing their weapons before fleeing to Bangladeshi territorial waters.”

Several sources also claim that Islamic terrorist groups, such as ARSA and RSO, operating on Bangladeshi soil, are attempting to instigate armed militancy and transnational crimes in Arakan by posing as illegal fishermen.
