The Arakan Army (AA) has safely handed over a group of Bangladeshi fishermen to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after they drifted into Arakan territorial waters due to an engine malfunction while fishing in the Naf River.
According to reports from Bangladeshi local media, the Arakan Army handed over a total of 14 Bangladeshi nationals on May 9. This group included 10 fishermen who had drifted off course after their boat broke down, and four other Bengalis who had been previously detained by the Military Council and were subsequently released.
In video footage released by regional media, an AA official is seen communicating with BGB members through a translator in the Arakanese language, stating, "They were fishing at sea when their boat engine failed and they arrived in our area, so we rescued and sheltered them."
Ground sources indicate that the 14 individuals had been stranded at sea for 12 days following the engine failure in the Naf River. Upon encountering Arakan Army personnel, they sought assistance, leading the AA to provide rescue aid and coordinate their return to the BGB.
The 14 fishermen have now been officially received by the BGB and transported back to Teknaf port in Bangladesh.
