The Arakan Army (AA) reported the discovery of six civilian bodies, kidnapped, tortured, and killed by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), in a banana grove approximately 770 meters northwest of Upper Inn Chaung Village in Maungdaw Township. The find underscores escalating violence along the Arakan-Bangladesh border, attributed to militant groups operating from Bangladesh.
Incident Details
In September 2025, clashes erupted between AA forces and ARSA militants at Point 601, located between border posts 56 and 57 in northern Maungdaw Township. ARSA, aiming to seize AA’s border security outpost at Point 601 and another near Done Nyo Village, infiltrated Rakhine State from bases in Bangladesh using covert tactics over an extended period.
During these operations, ARSA members reportedly targeted non-Muslim civilians along routes to the outposts, kidnapping, torturing, and killing them to silence potential witnesses. The victims’ bodies were abandoned in isolated or sparsely populated areas. Local civilian administrations reported ten missing persons from Tamansar and Done Nyo villages during this period.

On September 28, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM, AA security forces, conducting routine patrols, discovered the six bodies in a banana grove. The remains, reduced to skeletal fragments due to high humidity and lack of burial, were scattered across four locations: one body in each of two sites and two bodies in each of two others. Preliminary investigations suggest these are the remains of six missing villagers from Tamanthar and Done Nyo, targeted by ARSA during their attacks. Forensic teams, collaborating with families of the missing, are working to identify the remains despite their advanced decomposition.

Security Response and Public Advisory
AA’s counterattacks forced ARSA militants to flee into Bangladesh, complicating pursuit due to cross-border diplomatic constraints. Within Arakan, the AA continues to track and neutralize ARSA members to eliminate terrorist threats and ensure public safety.
The AA also accuses ARSA and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) of endangering innocent Arakan residents through violence and intimidation along the border. To enhance community safety, the AA urges residents to:
Avoid traveling alone or in small groups through forests or isolated areas.
Report essential travel, including for health emergencies, to the nearest Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government administration or security outpost before proceeding.
These measures aim to protect lives, homes, and property in the volatile border region.
