The Arakan Army (AA) reportedly seized two boats carrying narcotics from Teknaf Port in Bangladesh.
The seizure occurred yesterday, April 24, at approximately 2:00 PM, when drug-laden boat was found anchored between Done Paik and Chein Khar Li in Rathedaung Township.
A total of 23 packages of marijuana and seven Bangladeshi nationals were found on the first boat.
Additionally, two bags of ointment for skin itch, two bags of contraceptives, four mobile phones, and 500 Taka were confiscated.
The second boat carried four Bangladeshi nationals. According to the detainees' confessions, the narcotics were intended for delivery to Sittway, a city currently under the control of the Military Commission.
The first boat had reportedly anchored due to an engine failure while they were on the way to Sittwe with the drugs. The second boat, which arrived to provide assistance, was also detained.
Local residents noted that Bangladeshi nationals frequently transport narcotics by sea to the Military Commission-controlled city of Sittwe.
Observers analyse that despite strict security measures around Sittwe, the ease with which drugs are being imported from Bangladesh suggests a direct connection or involvement with the Military Commission.
