Rakhine Traveler Arrested and Killed by Terrorist Military Commission Troops at Myaing Checkpoint on Sagaing Border

A Rakhine traveler was arrested and killed by members of the terrorist military commission at a checkpoint located on the border of Sagaing Region, according to news reports.

The victim killed by the terrorist military commission has been identified as 43-year-old U Kyaw Than Lwin from Kan Kyun Gyi Village, Ann Township, who was returning to Arakan State after working in Malaysia.

He arrived in Yangon from Malaysia on August 10 and was Ann route back to Arakan State on August 12 when he, along with 10 other civilian passengers, was arrested by the terrorist military commission at the Myaing checkpoint.

Following the arrest, the terrorist military commission interrogated the 10 passengers. While the other nine passengers were released, U Kyaw Than Lwin was detained and tortured under suspicion of having ties to the AA, according to a family member.

"He was struck with a rifle butt about two times. When he cried out in pain, they dragged him into a building and killed him. People reportedly saw his body being dragged outside afterwards," the family member said.

U Kyaw Than Lwin, who was killed by the terrorist military commission, was a ordinary civilian who had worked in Malaysia for 12 years to support his family's livelihood. His family members expressed profound grief over his tragic death while he was on his way back home to join them.
